Behind the design

Youngstown born, Youngstown bread.

Schwebel's started in the small Campbell, Ohio kitchen of Dora and Joseph Schwebel, who baked fresh bread and sold the warm loaves door to door out of wicker laundry baskets. Word spread about the taste and the unmatched freshness, and sales grew past the neighborhood into surrounding areas, including the immigrant steelworkers in Youngstown. Soon deliveries moved to horses and wagons as the reputation spread far and wide.
